Supplier Market Assessment

supplier-market-assessment

LCMH has undertaken a supplier-level market assessment using currently available EPD data. This assessment provides a high-level overview of the Australian concrete supplier landscape, with a focus on GWP performance and the distribution of concrete products available from suppliers with EPDs.

It is designed to help stakeholders:

  • Understand which suppliers lead the market in low-carbon products and where their offerings fall on the overall market spectrum.

  • Compare the GWP performance of products from different suppliers across various concrete strength grades.

  • Identify potential opportunities for carbon reduction across the market and within individual suppliers’ portfolios.

Table 1

Table 1 offers a quick snapshot of the GWP performance of concrete products from each supplier operating in Australia. It shows the minimum, median, and maximum GWP values for products within each concrete strength grade, giving an overview of the range and variability in GWP performance.

Table 2

Table 2 illustrates the distribution of concrete products from each supplier according to LCMH and MECLA’s rating systems. This helps users evaluate how suppliers' products are spread across the LCM rating bands and MECLA’s classification. It provides insights on the distribution of products from a supplier within each rating category.

This table is intended for high-level comparison purposes only. It does not consider specific product applications or key performance characteristics. As such, it should not be used in isolation for detailed design or procurement decisions.

LCMH will be continuously working in collaboration with MECLA to develop an application-specific benchmarking and classification system. This upcoming framework will provide more accurate and context-sensitive ratings aligned with distinct use cases, supporting informed low-carbon material selection.

Imported Building Materials: The Next Frontier in Australia’s Carbon Accounting Challenge

Australia’s building industry is undergoing a significant transformation as it moves towards low-carbon construction. While strong progress has been made in decarbonising locally produced materials such as concrete, steel, and timber, there remains a major blind spot in carbon planning: imported building materials. With Australia heavily reliant on global supply chains, addressing the carbon impact of these imports is becoming increasingly critical.
