Reference Database Comparison

australia-concrete-reference-database

To support more informed material choices and carbon target-setting, LCMH has integrated a comparative view of Australia’s most widely used reference benchmarking databases for concrete.

This chart helps users understand:

  • How these databases compare against the real Australian market distribution

  • What level of carbon reduction is achievable relative to each benchmark

  • Which benchmarks align best with their project goals, tools, and rating requirements

Included Benchmarking Databases:

  • AusLCI Database

  • NABERS National Emission Factors Database

  • EPiC Database

  • LCMH Database

Table 1

Table 1 is presented as an interactive box-and-whisker chart, visualising the real-time market distribution of GWP values across concrete strength grades using LCMH’s live EPD dataset. Each benchmarking database is represented as an overlay marker on the chart, with toggle controls that allow users to show or hide specific datasets for direct comparison.

Table 2

Table 2 provides a summarised view of where each benchmark falls within the market distribution and what percentage of lower-carbon options are available relative to that benchmark. Each database can be selected as an overlay on the chart, so users can visually align their selection target (e.g., NABERS Average or EPiC Hybrid) with the actual range of available product options.

The Landscape of Concrete EPDs in Australia and New Zealand

Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) have become an essential tool in the Australian construction industry, particularly within the concrete sector. As sustainability and carbon reduction efforts gain traction, EPDs provide a standardised way to assess and compare the environmental impact of different concrete products. This article explores the current state of concrete EPDs in Australia and New Zealand, including the number of registered EPDs, the leading suppliers, and their role in sustainable construction.
